There are a few tough women here at the Capitol. Betty Flood Morrow has covered politics at the Capitol since Averill Harriman was Governor. Senator Velmanette Montgomery, a Democrat, rode a wave of activism to Albany from her district in Brooklyn back in the middle 80’s. Senator Betty Little, a Republican, found a passion for public service in mid-life and ran for her first legislative seat in the middle 90’s. All three women are trailblazers – the fought sexism, racism, and forged a path that hundreds of younger women are more easily able to navigate thanks to them. Today on the Capitol Pressroom, as we continue to wait for a budget, we will meet each of these women and hear about life at the Capitol 10, 20 and 40+ years ago, in their own words
