Senator Velmanette Montgomery Speaks on Women's History Month Resolution

Senator Velmanette Montgomery pays tribute to Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and reflects on the important role women have played throughout our history, as part of the New York State Senate Legislative Resolution Memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 2020 as Women's History Month in the State of New York.

As Women's History Month began, the members of Legislative Women's Caucus each selected a historic woman who has left a lasting impression on them. Senator Montgomery chose Harriet Tubman as her honoree.

Harriet Tubman was a prominent abolitionist and activist who tactfully helped other slaves obtain their freedom through a network of contacts and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. Attributed to opening doors for her people that otherwise would not be possible, Harriet served as a true trailblazer for the significant women that have come after her.
