The LIRR just logged its worst year for on-time performance in two decades. And a recent State Comptroller's audit found thousands of trains cancelled, late or delayed during a two-month period earlier this year. Yet the MTA still plans to go ahead with another fare hike next year, adding to the frustration and burden of beleaguered LIRR commuters. Senator Elaine Phillips has called on the LIRR to put the fare hike on hold until it makes measurable improvements in service, equipment failures and delays.
