Say NO to a new Wood Burning Ban in NYS

SEN. Patty Ritchie

January 13, 2022

As you may have seen, Downstate Democrats, through the state’s “Climate Action Council” are pushing to “reduce wood smoke” in New York State.

This change could mean a potential future ban on wood-burning stoves in our homes—on top of the move to eliminate natural gas hook-ups.

We all know how cold winter can get in Upstate New York, and many of us rely on wood-burning stoves for heat. While the Climate Action Council has denied looking at specific legislation to ban wood burning this year, reducing wood consumption by targeting wood stoves has been discussed at their recent meetings.

In recent weeks, I have heard from countless constituents who are opposed to the Climate Action Council’s potential ban on wood burning stoves. New York families are already paying the highest energy costs in the nation—and taking away this affordable heating source could make living here even more unaffordable.
