New York State Senate Pinwheels for Peace Program

Pinwheels for Peace Banner

In recognition of the International Day of Peace, the New York State Senate is proud to launch the Pinwheels and Poems for Peace, a statewide initiative to promote inclusion and build a culture of peace.

This program offers an opportunity for students, educators, and school communities to reflect on the importance of peace and to showcase how they are contributing to a culture of care and connection in their everyday actions.

Observed on September 21, the International Day of Peace was established by the United Nations to encourage nations and individuals alike to rise above division and commit to building a more, compassionate, and peaceful world. The 2025 theme — “Act Now for a Peaceful World”—urges us all to take intentional steps toward kindness, understanding, and unity.

We are inviting schools across New York State to participate by engaging in peace-themed activities from September 1 to 30, 2025. This can include:

· Pinwheels for Peace Pledge

· Peace-Themed Art and Poetry

· Class Murals

Participating classrooms will send a class photo proudly displaying their pinwheels and poems. Students who will be eligible to receive an official Peace Pledge Certificate from their Senator. Certificates will be awarded at the close of the program on September 30, 2025, and sent directly to schools for distribution.

We appreciate your help in spreading the word throughout your school communities and encouraging student involvement.

A Peace Participation Toolkit—including flyers, printable pinwheel templates, and submission instructions—will be made available by September 1, 2025, by [CLICKING HERE].
