Amazon is building a 3.2 million sq. ft. warehouse in Orange County and is asking YOU to foot the bill.

Orange County officials are addicted to warehouse development, paving over our communities in the process. To make matters worse, the IDA just rubber-stamped an $80.2 MILLION tax break for Amazon, despite them being one of the largest corporations in the world. 

But, this fight is not over.

This is exactly the type of taxpayers-be-damned behavior that led me to successfully push to install a state monitor at the Orange County IDA, who has the critical ability to veto the giveaway and protect taxpayer interests. I'm urging him in the strongest possible terms to use his override authority. 

Even putting aside the obvious -- that the warehouse project does not require public subsidies to move forward -- the IDA, as required by its own policies, failed to consider: the quality and salary of the projected jobs, demonstrated public support (in this case, opposition), environmental impacts, and additional municipal services, among other criteria.

Amazon should not look to local taxpayers to subsidize their poverty-wage project -- it’s insulting to our community. Unfortunately, the Orange County IDA’s leadership is intent on giving away the farm, per usual. They don’t care about taxpayers - never have and, seemingly, never will. And that’s why I’m fighting the IDA and Amazon tooth-and-nail.
