Senator Pam Helming (R-54th District) today invited local residents to nominate friends, coworkers and neighborhood leaders whose outstanding work on behalf of their communities makes them deserving of special recognition by the State Senate as a New York “Woman of Distinction.”
The Senate will honor a distinguished woman from our area and throughout the state. A tentative date of May 1, 2019 for the ceremony in Albany. Each honoree’s photo and biography will become part of a special exhibit proclaiming the contributions of these exemplary New York women.
“Our community is fortunate to have so many remarkable women whose lives, work and accomplishments have contributed to making our neighborhoods better, making our families stronger and serve as examples to others,” said Senator Helming. “The New York State Senate’s Women of Distinction program provides a special opportunity to honor women from throughout the state for their achievements, and to thank them for the pride they bring to our communities.”
Previous winners in the annual event have included leading women from the world of business, academies and civic life, agriculture and farming, and those who have performed heroic or selfless acts made significant discoveries or provided examples of personal excellence against difficult odds.
The Women of Distinction program was created as part of the Senate’s celebration of Women’s History Month. In addition to recognizing present-day women, each March, the Senate hosts a display that honors other distinguished women from New York’s past.
The exhibit will be on display in Albany at the Legislative Office Building. Senator Helming is also offering an online Women of Distinction exhibit through her website at helming.nysenate.gov.
