Where Are They Now? George Seaman, Session Assistant 2011

1. When did you participate in the Undergraduate Session Assistants Program or Senate Fellowship?

I was a Session Assistant in 2011.

2. Which Senate office were you placed in during your internship?

I was assigned to Senator Martin Golden’s Office during my time with the program. I had a phenomenal time working with Senator Golden, who was incredibly welcoming and saw to it that I was involved with the office. The Session Assistant program ended in May, but the office hired me on and kept me there as a legislative aide.

3. Where are you working now? Briefly describe your responsibilities/day-to-day activities in your current place of employment.

At the beginning of the program, I was flirting with the idea of going to law school, but was still on the fence. I credit Senator Golden with actually giving me the push I needed to decide on a school and go through with it. I left his office in August 2011 and began law school at the University of Buffalo a week later. I graduated University of Buffalo Law in 2014, and was admitted to the New York State Bar.

For a brief time following law school, I worked as a compliance officer at JP Morgan Chase in Brooklyn before beginning active duty in the US Marine Corps in 2015. Currently, I am a prosecutor for the Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan.

5. What did you learn from participating in the New York State Senate internship programs that you have been able to carry over to your new position?

I have nothing but good things to say about the Senate Session Assistant program. It was an incredibly valuable experience, and the skills I learned working for Senator Golden are still of benefit to me today.
