5721
1 SENATOR GOLD: Senator, there is
2 just a question I was asked I'd like to ask
3 you. Aren't they presently doing this in terms
4 of collecting this information? Why are you
5 putting it in statute? I thought Criminal
6 Justice Services had this kind of a program.
7 SENATOR PADAVAN: Yes, it's done,
8 but it's not done in an orderly, universal,
9 comprehensive manner. It's done depending upon
10 how effecient or how -- how the local police
11 department or agency or whatever used the
12 collection of this data. Sometimes it's
13 comprehensive, and sometimes it's not. I think
14 it would be helpful to have a uniform standard
15 throughout the state so when we deal with issues
16 involving gun control, other related areas, that
17 information will be as accurate as it possibly
18 can be.
