2 THE PRESIDENT: The Senate will
3 please come to order.
4 I would ask all those present to
5 please rise with me and join in the recitation
6 of the Pledge of Allegiance.
7 (Whereupon, the assemblage recited
8 the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.)
9 THE PRESIDENT: Our prayer today
10 will be offered, as it has been so many times,
11 by the very wonderful and renowned Reverend
12 Peter G. Young, now with Mother Theresa
13 Community right here on 2nd Avenue in Albany.
14 REVEREND YOUNG: Forty-eight
15 years of doing the same thing.
16 Dear God, as we begin the 230th
17 session, we all have a variety of resolutions
18 that are environment, energy, disaster
19 preparedness, economic development, urban
20 planning, schools, DSS, taxes, community,
21 healthcare, crime, tech and government
22 spending. And without dedication to your
23 guidelines, O God, these 2007 resolutions will
24 be words without results.
25 We turn to You, O God, for these

1 Senators, so that they will benefit from Your
2 commitment to them and their commitment to You
3 for all of our New Yorkers, so that they will
4 prosper and do Your good work.

2 SENATOR SKELOS: Mr. President,
3 if you would recognize Senator Maltese at this
4 time.
5 THE PRESIDENT: The chair
6 recognizes Senator Maltese.
7 SENATOR MALTESE: Mr. President,
8 I wanted to take advantage of an opportunity
9 to address my esteemed Senate colleague,
10 former Senator David Paterson. Certainly
11 he'll never be a former Senator to me, but
12 Lieutenant Governor, the presiding officer.
13 I take this opportunity to
14 introduce a visiting legislator, a visiting
15 state senator from the state of Virginia,
16 representing Richmond, the chair of the
17 education committee, a member of the reserve,
18 the U.S. Army Reserve for many years, a very
19 distinguished legislator. He is also a guest
20 of Assemblyman Peter Rivera.
21 I'd just like to introduce H.
22 Russell Potts, Jr., from Richmond, Virginia,
23 the state senator. Will you please stand.

1 welcome to the Senate chamber.
2 Senator Potts was an independent
3 candidate for governor in Virginia in 2005 and
4 has served with distinction in the senate of
5 that great state.
6 And we welcome you here to the
7 chamber and hope you will come back and visit
8 us again. Thank you.

11 SENATOR SKELOS: Mr. President,
12 is there any further business to come before
13 the Senate?
14 THE PRESIDENT: No, there isn't,
15 Senator.

17 further business, I move we stand adjourned
