         3       Senate will please come to order.

         4                  I ask everyone present to please

        16       meeting, there will be a meeting of the

        17       Finance Committee in Room 332.

         2       well as the Crime Victims, Crime and

         3       Corrections Committee meeting, will be delayed

         4       until next week.

         5                  So I repeat, we will not be meeting

         6       off the floor, we will reschedule the

         7       committee meetings for next week.

         8                  ACTING PRESIDENT VALESKY:    Those

         9       committee meetings will be held next week.

        11                  SENATOR KLEIN:    Mr. President,

        12       may we at this time take up Senate Legislative

        13       Resolution Number 79.  And I ask that the

        14       resolution be read in its entirety and move

        15       for its immediate adoption.

        19       Johnson, Senate Resolution Number 79,

        20       memorializing Governor David A. Paterson to

        21       proclaim February 3 through 9, 2009, as

        22       Kawasaki Disease Awareness Week in the State

        23       of New York.

        24                  "WHEREAS, Kawasaki Disease

         1       (Mucocutaneous Lymph Node Syndrome) is an

         2       acute febrile disease with inflammation of

         3       small and medium-sized blood vessels

         4       throughout the body, in particular, the

         5       coronary arteries; and

         6                  "WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is

         7       justly proud to memorialize Governor David A.

         8       Paterson to proclaim February 3-9, 2009, as

         9       Kawasaki Disease Awareness Week in the State

        10       of New York; and

        11                  "WHEREAS, Kawasaki Disease is named

        12       for Dr. Tomisaku Kawasaki, a Japanese

        13       physician, who first described the illness in

        14       1967.  This disorder is accompanied by fever,

        15       rash, swelling of the hands and feet, and

        16       reddening of the eyes; and

        17                  "WHEREAS, Kawasaki Disease mainly

        18       affects children under the age of four but can

        19       affect any age child or adult, with it

        20       affecting people in all racial and ethnic

        21       groups.  Approximately 3,000 to 4,000 children

        22       are diagnosed each year in the United States

        23       with this devastating disease; and

        24                  "WHEREAS, An accurate diagnosis and

         1       timely treatment are important, in that

         2       Kawasaki Disease is the leading cause of

         3       acquired heart disease in children; and

         4                  "WHEREAS, Due to the rarity of

         5       Kawasaki Disease and the lack of awareness of

         6       the illness and its dangerous effects,

         7       children are often diagnosed late, which can

         8       be fatal; now, therefore, be it

         9                  "RESOLVED, That this Legislative

        10       Body pause in its deliberations to memorialize

        11       Governor David A. Paterson to proclaim

        12       February 3-9, 2009, as Kawasaki Disease

        13       Awareness Week in the State of New York; and

        14       be it further

        15                  "RESOLVED, That copies of this

        16       resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted

        17       to the Honorable David A. Paterson, Governor

        18       of the State of New York, and to the Kawasaki

        19       Disease Foundation."

        20                  ACTING PRESIDENT VALESKY:    Are

        21       there any Senators wishing to be heard on the

        22       resolution?
