1 Yesterday, in the State of
2 Washington, Tacoma, outside of Fort Lewis,
3 Washington, four police officers -- three
4 male, one female -- sitting at a table to
5 discuss the priorities of the day were shot
6 and killed in view of the public.
7 I think that a moment of silence is
8 in order to show respect for the number of law
9 enforcement officers who are being killed.
10 But specifically, at this time of
11 the year and how they were murdered is
12 certainly something that we as a nation should
13 be ashamed of. And we should do everything to
14 strengthen the law enforcement efforts so that
15 these things do not continue.
16 Thank you, Mr. President.
17 ACTING PRESIDENT VALESKY: At
18 Senator Larkin's suggestion, would all present
19 please rise to observe a moment of silence for
20 the law enforcement officers who were recently
21 murdered and all law enforcement officers who
22 put their lives on the line each and every day
23 for each and every one of us.
24 (Whereupon, the assemblage rose and

1 respected a moment of silence.)
2 ACTING PRESIDENT VALESKY: Senat
3 or Klein.
4 SENATOR KLEIN: Mr. President,
5 while meetings and negotiations continue on
6 the deficit reduction plan, can we please
7 stand at ease.
8 ACTING PRESIDENT VALESKY: The
9 Senate shall stand at ease.
10 (Whereupon, the Senate stood at
11 ease at 2:28 p.m.)
12 (Whereupon, the Senate reconvened
13 at 6:02 p.m.)
14 ACTING PRESIDENT VALESKY: Senat
15 or Klein.
16 SENATOR KLEIN: Mr. President,
17 I'd like to inform the Senate that we will
18 adjourn at the call of the Temporary
19 President. On motion, the Senate stands
20 adjourned at the call of the Temporary
