Serino hosts Free Senior Scam Prevention Seminars

As the season’s change, so do the trends in targeted scams and identity theft that may impact seniors in the local community. This spring, Senator Sue Serino, Chair of the Senate’s Aging Committee, encourages local seniors to attend free Senior Scam Prevention Seminars where the NYS Department of State will be on hand to provide an informative presentation on ways to recognize and avoid falling victim to scams and identity theft. These seminars will be held Thursday, May 3rdat The Town of Poughkeepsie Senior Center (10:00am-12:00pm) and Friday, May 4that the Red Hook Community Center (1:00pm-3:00pm).

“In order to prevent we must prepare,” said Senator Sue Serino. “And I want to make sure that our community’s seniors are well prepared and have access to the information and tools they need in order to avoid becoming the victim of a scam. Scam artists are becoming more and more sophisticated and their techniques are ever-evolving. These events will provide area seniors with the most up-to-date information available, so all local seniors, children of aging parents and caregivers are invited, and encouraged, to attend.”

While an RSVP is not required to attend these free events, it is appreciated. To reserve your spot today, community members should call Senator Serino’s office at 845-229-0106.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Senior Center and Red Hook Community Center serve as senior friendship centers where seniors can come together for various activities. All Senior Friendship Centers throughout the county are operated by the Dutchess County Office for the Aging. For more information on these centers and their locations, click here.
