Senator Bonacic announces the recognition of March 30 as William H. Seward Day in New York State. “Not only was Secretary of State Mr. Seward a leading figure in American history,” said Senator John Bonacic, “but he also served the State of New York as a Senator from 1830 to 1834, and as the state’s 12th Governor, from 1839 to 1842. He was one of the nation’s most ardent opponents of slavery. It is with great pleasure that we devote this day to his memory and his great accomplishments to our country.”

Senator Bill Perkins recently presented a proclamation honoring the life, memory and everlasting legacy of The Queen, Celia Cruz—on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of her debut performance at the Apollo Theater in May of 1964. The event, entitled “Tribute To La Guarachera De Cuba | The Queen Celia Cruz” was hosted by the Apollo Theater in partnership with the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute, in collaboration with the Celia Cruz Legacy Project.

Senator Stewart-Cousins Recognizing the Marching Cobras For Their Outstanding Performance During Super Bowl Week 2014

Senator Stewart-Cousins proudly recognized the Marching Cobras with a resolution for their accomplishments, most recently performing during the Super Bowl Week on February this year among college bands. The Marching Cobras is a community-based program that encourages children and young adults to express and develop themselves through music.

White Plains St. Patrick's Day Parade

Participating in White Plain's St. Patrick's Day Annual Parade has become part of Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins' tradition in celebrating the Irish culture and heritage of many of her constituents. This is the 17th year White Plains hosted this celebration which occured on Saturday, March 8th and commenced at the intersection of Mamaroneck Avenue and Old Mamaroneck Road ending at City Hall. Also at the Parade was the Senator's colleague, Senator George Latimer.

Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center Opening

Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins was one of the first few to step foot in the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center on Saturday, March 8th which was its grand opening. The purpose of the Education Center is "to enhance the teaching and learning of the lessons of the Holocaust and the right of all people to be treated with dignity and respect. RITCHIE, NORTH COUNTRY ARTS COUNCIL TEAM UP TO “CELEBRATE LOCAL ARTISTS”

In an effort to recognize local artistic talent in Central and Northern New York, State Senator Patty Ritchie, along with the North Country Arts Council hosted a celebration of the arts Thursday evening in Watertown.

At the event those who have participated in the “Senator Ritchie Celebrates Local Artists” program were recognized.  Through the effort, two dozen artists have had their work featured in Senator Ritchie’s Albany, Ogdensburg, Oswego and Watertown offices.   The work of past featured artists can be viewed at Downtown Watertown’s Franklin Building or by clicking here

In addition, at the event, high school students from the Central and Northern New York region were inducted into Senator Ritchie’s local artists program, and in the weeks to come, will have their artwork featured in her offices.  Several high school students were also invited to perform in the areas of song and dance.

White Plains Historical Society Celebration of George Washington's Birthday

On February 23rd, Senator Stewart-Cousins and other local elected officials joined the White Plains Historical Society at the Jacob Purdy House to celebrate the birthday of America's Founder, George Washington. The event program included a flag raising ceremony and a lecture by historian Barnet Schecter titled "Revolutionary War Battles in NY Through George Washington's Maps". The coverlet containing pictures of historic White Plains houses and buildings, which the Senator happily purchased to support the organization, can be purchased at the WPHS online gift shop.
