It was an enjoyable event, including an impromptu dance between Senator Espada and a 98-year-young lady, in celebration of the everlasting love and work of motherhood.

Senator Suzi Oppenheimer Congratulates Local Girl Scouts for Winning Bronze Award

 

 

On May 11, 2010, Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck) awarded Certificates of Merit to members of the Junior Girl Scout Troop 2694 and congratulated them on receiving the Bronze Award, the highest honor given to junior girl scouts.  The girls traveled to Albany as part of the New York State Girl Scout Legislative Network.

Aubertine UTV Bill Moves Out of Committee

 

Bill would redefine ATV in state law to make side-by-side vehicles legal up to 1,500lbs

ALBANY (April 27, 2010)—The New York State Senate Transportation Committee today moved legislation sponsored by Sen. Aubertine (S.4277) that would allow all-terrain vehicle riders to legally register and ride side-by-side ATVs on trail systems throughout the state.

The committee voted 16-1, meaning the bill—which has an Assembly sponsor—will be eligible for consideration soon on the Senate floor.

Sen. Valesky Proposes Bill to Encourage More Fishing-based Rehabilitation Events for Veterans

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) has introduced legislation (S.7041) that would encourage more fishing events that provide physical and emotional rehabilitation for veterans or active duty members of the armed forces. 

“Providing our veterans and active duty personnel, who have sacrificed bravely for our country, with more opportunities to learn the rehabilitative nature of fishing is a small way of saying thank you,” Senator Valesky said.

With Census Day (April 1) less than one week away, State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. and a crowd of Bronx clergy, community and business leaders and residents – including families, children and senior citizens – take Census 2010 to the streets, holding a press conference and chanting “Count Me In!” as they mail their Census questionnaires at the Post Office, then fan out into the neighborhood to distribute flyers and explain to borough residents the importance of participating in this year’s Census count.
