This Prayer Rally is scheduled to coincide with Wednesday’s Criminal Court appearance of Mr. Nanic Aidasani, who has been charged with second-degree rape against a 64-year old resident at the Manhattanville Rehabilitation & HealthCare Center in Riverdale one year ago.  Mr. Aidasani worked at that facility as a licensed practical nurse.

Senate Report Reveals Sex Offenders Living Near Pre-K and Kindergarten Programs

The State Senate recently released the report, “Keeping Our Children Safe From Sex Offenders,” that has uncovered startling violations of residency restrictions and a major loophole in New York State law. It can be viewed at http://www.nysenate.gov/files/pdfs/Keeping_our_Children_Safe.pdf

The investigation found convicted pedophiles violating state law by living within 1,000 feet of grade schools with Pre-K programs. In addition, over a dozen sex offenders are residing within 1,000 feet of stand-alone Universal Pre-K programs not attached to grade schools.

NY Court of Appeals Says Localities Can’t Prohibit Where Sex Offenders Live

State Senator Robert Ortt (R,C,I-North Tonawanda) today announced legislation (S.2609) that will prohibit convicted sex offenders from living near schools or in close proximity to their victims. Ortt said this legislation, which he is co-sponsoring, is even more critical after the New York State Court of Appeals ruled this week that local governments do not have the authority to restrict where sex offenders can live.

Keep Sex Offenders Away From Their Victims & Schools

ONEONTA, 02/19/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) today announced that he has introduced legislation (S.2609) to prohibit sex offenders from residing near their victims or near any school.

“We must do all we can to safeguard children and victims from sexual offenders,” said Senator Seward.  “My legislation bars the most serious predators from residing near their victims or near a school and will close an existing loophole in addition to providing a needed layer of protection.”
