KLEIN GRAFFITI CREW CLEANS VAN NEST CHURCH

72 hours after hearing that the Love Gospel Church in the Van Nest neighborhood of the Bronx had been vandalized, State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) joined local community leaders, church officials and a graffiti clean-up team to clean the side of the church on Saturday, June 5th. This is the second time in just two months that Senator Klein’s crew has helped remove graffiti from the church.

6/5/2010: Senator Huntley Supports Mother's Against Guns (MAG)

Senator Huntley stood in solidarity with the community on Saturday, June 05, 2010, expressing to them that we must work as a group to gain control of our community(s). Senator Huntley is encouraged by the programs available to address violence and illegal guns; such as Mother’s Against Guns (MAG), founded by Elizabeth Bishop-Goldsmith and Cash for Guns Program. The Senator further expressed that it is our duty as elected officials to try and make our communities as safe as possible. Senator Huntley believes these programs are great initiatives to curbing violence and she will always be there to support the community in any way possible.

On May 18th, Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (35th SD) announced passage of legislation (S1899A) to provide law enforcement with new tools to prosecute career car thieves. This bill, introduced by Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx) makes it easier to bring felony auto theft charges against suspects previously convicted of a broader range of vehicle related crimes, assisting police and prosecutors in their efforts to break up auto theft rings.

Reform Needed At New York Juvenile Prisons

Serrano, Advocates, and Community March to End Violence in El Barrio

(East Harlem, NY)- Senator José M. Serrano, the East Harlem Community and other local elected officials held  a march today protesting the rise in violence that has occurred in this culturally rich and diverse neighborhood, most recently the stabbing of three people on May 26th.

Head of OCFS Must Go

Crime Should Not Pay

All across New York State, law-abiding citizens have been tightening their belts, cutting spending and foregoing even the smallest luxuries. Everyone has had to sacrifice in these difficult economic times---everyone except those individuals who have broken the law, and are now incarcerated in our State’s prisons.

As the cost of living continues to climb for New Yorkers, so does the cost of incarcerating, rehabilitating and providing health care for New York’s prison inmates.

Crime Should Not Pay

As a member of the New York State Senate Committee on Crime Victims, Crime, and Corrections, Senator Nozzolio has fought hard to keep New York State’s inmates accountable for their crimes.

Senator Nozzolio has sponsored legislation (S.2404) that would allow New York State to collect a small healthcare copayment for those who could afford to pay. This copayment would discourage fraud and abuse of the healthcare benefits that prisoners enjoy.
