Senator Farley Announces Final Passage of Legislation Protecting Victims of Human Trafficking

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) is pleased to report final legislative passage of important legislation in protecting the victims of human trafficking. The Senate passed the bill in 2013 and 2014, as well as this year, and it finally passed the Assembly this week. The legislation toughens penalties against those who buy and sell young women, men, and children and reduces the stigma defendants may face when they are victims of the massive $32 billion sex trafficking industry.

Senate Passes Legislation to Prohibit Sex Offenders From Living in Community Residences With Individuals With Developmental Disabilities

The New York State Senate today passed legislation that would prohibit registered sex offenders from living with individuals with developmental disabilities in community residences operated or licensed by the state. The bill (S2885), sponsored by Senator Michael Ranzenhofer (R-C-I, Amherst), strengthens current protections and helps ensure that individuals with developmental disabilities are living in a safe environment.

Sobering news, N.Y. now America's heroin capital

ALBANY, NY - The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York gave testimony this week that New York has become the nation's number one heroin trafficking hub. The co-chairs of the Joint Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction, State Senators Terrence Murphy, George Amedore and Robert Ortt, were alarmed by the news from prosecutor Bridgett Brennan.

Senate Coalition releases disturbing report on sex offenders living near pre-schools in Westchester

ALBANY, NY –  The New York State Senate Coalition today unveiled a new alarming joint-investigative report, “Keeping Our Children Safe From Sex Offenders,” conducted by the offices of State Senate Coalition Co-Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) and State Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos (R-Nassau), which uncovered sex offenders living dangerously close to pre-schools in Westchester and Rockland.

The second investigation comes a day after the State Senate passed nine key sex offender bills — including a measure to close the loophole allowing dangerous sex offenders to reside near pre-schools and legislation granting localities the right to toughen residency restrictions for sexual predators.

These bills all await passage by the New York State Assembly.
