Downtown Cortland Receives Improvement Funding

Historic Building Will Host Downtown Hotel Project

BUFFALO (wned) - The old Curtiss Building at Huron and Franklin will become the core of a new 57 room hotel, with the old and closed Continental nightclub leveled to be replaced by a hotel and amenities wing.A Restore New York grant of $1.3 million allocated by City Hall will help demolish the Continental. Senator William Stachowski says the total $14 million dollar Restore New York grant to Buffalo is the largest in the state.

Senator Valesky Opens Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Workshop

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) delivered opening remarks at a workshop that provided details about application of the Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit, a law sponsored by Senator Valesky.

The workshop, sponsored by the Metropolitan Development Association, Preservation League, New York State Historic Preservation Office, and the New York State Urban Council, drew more than 100 people, including developers, homeowners, economic development professionals, municipal leaders and real estate agents.

LITTLE: COURT ACTION HALTS FEE HIKE ON RETAILERS

Writes letter to state tax department urging refund for businesses that already paid

Senator Betty Little today said she is pleased by a State Supreme Court judge’s decision late last week that has prevented the state from collecting a huge cigarette fee increase on North Country retailers and others throughout the state.  In a letter to the New York State Tax Department, Little today requested that businesses that have already paid the higher fee be refunded the money immediately.

Business leaders outline concerns on doing business in New York

PLATTSBURGH — Local business leaders complained Wednesday about how state fees, taxes and regulations are hindering their competitiveness and ability to create and retain jobs.

The setting was the third of five statewide hearings to gather business input, Unshackle Upstate Executive Director Brian Sampson said. The purpose is to create a record to bring to state government officials to develop a pro-growth agenda for the state.

GCEDC gets $1 million for early work on 'mega site"

The GCEDC vice president said it was a bipartisan effort by the Western New York delegation of the Senate and Assembly to get the funds earmarked. Elected officials who worked on securing the $1 million included two Republicans, Ranzenhofer and Assemblyman Steve Hawley; a Democrat, Senator William Stachowski; and one former GOP senator, Mary Lou Rath, who retired at the end of 2008.
