Senate Adopts Jobs Plan

The latest jobless figures for Northern and Central New York have been released—and the news is not good. Upstate New York continues to feel the effects of a crushing national recession that has cost the jobs of thousands of our neighbors.These sobering figures make it more clear than ever before that we need to act to reverse the trend of job losses, and get New York back in the business of creating jobs.The State Senate is wasting no time. As one of the first actions of the New Year, the Senate passed a plan that can put people back to work, and get New York back on track.A centerpiece of the Senate plan was my proposal to provide a $5,000 tax credit for every new job that businesses create in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties.

Senator Martins Votes to Help Long Island Families Through Passage of the Job Creation & Taxpayer Protection Act

New York State Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) voted today along with his colleagues in the Senate to bring relief to Long Island families by passing the Job Creation & Taxpayer Protection Act, a three-part plan to encourage the creation of new, private sector jobs and ensure fiscal responsibility.Among the initiatives of the act is setting a cap on state spending at 2 percent or 120 percent of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), whichever is lower.“State government can no longer close its deficit on the backs of the taxpayers. This cap will ensure that the state lives within its budget, easing the burden on taxpayers,” Martins said.

Senate Passes Job Creation & Taxpayer Protection Act

The New York State Senate today passed the Job Creation and Taxpayer Protection Act of 2011, a three-part plan to encourage the creation of new private sector jobs and ensure fiscal responsibility, including the enactment of a two percent state spending cap and requiring a two-thirds “super majority” vote to increase taxes.

Senator Joe Robach (R,I,C -56th Senate District) said, “Job creation across New York should be one of our biggest priorities. The taxes and fees that were imposed as a result of last year’s budget, which I opposed, are making it very difficult for businesses to operate and grow jobs in our community.”
