Senator Martins, Mayor Cavallaro Tour Westbury Theater Renovation Site

Senator Jack M. Martins and Westbury Mayor Peter Cavallaro recently toured the site of the Westbury Theater to see the progress being made on the renovation project. Accompanying Senator Martins and Mayor Cavallaro were Andrea Lohneiss of the Empire State Development Corp., former Assemblyman Jerry Kremer and property owner Cyrus Hakakian.

The Westbury Theater is an historically significantly project in Westbury. In was built in the 1920s and was a main attraction in the village for several decades until it was closed in July 2001. It is currently being renovated to include a two-screen art cinema, a multi-purpose event space, a casual theme restaurant and artist studio lofts.

ReCharge NY

RECHARGE NY-State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C-Big Flats) recently joined New York Power Authority President and CEO Gil Quiniones (at podium in photo above) and Anchor Glass General Manager Michael Sopp (far right) to announce that Anchor Glass Container Corp., a Southern Tier glass container manufacturer, is receiving 6.6 megawatts in lower-cost electricity through the state's ReCharge NY (RNY) program that will allow the company to retain 340 local jobs and invest $37.2 million in its facility.

The state and local leaders made the announcement at the company's 100-year-old glass container production facility in Elmira Heights in Chemung County.

Germanow-Simon Expands

On Friday, I had the privilege to attend a ceremony at Germanow-Simon Corp. to celebrate the completion of a $3.25 million upgrade to the company's facilities located at 408 St. Paul Street. Germanow-Simon Corp. consists of two operating companies: GS Plastics Optics and Tel-Tru Manufacturing Co., and is one of the area's oldest continually operating manufacturing businesses. It was founded 96 years ago by members of the Germanow and Simon families. It currently employs 93 people, and when the project began 18 months ago, it employed 77 people.

Cutting the Ribbon on Art Walk Expansion Project

On Thursday, I had the privilege to speak at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Art Walk Extension and Enhancement Project. The project reconstructs University Avenue from North Goodman Street to Union Street by replacing aging streets and sidewalks. The portion unveiled today runs east to west on University Avenue from Goodman Street to Union Street, and north to south on Goodman Street from Village Gates to the Rochester Museum and Science Center.
