2/02/2010: New York Charter Parents Association Lobby Day

The New York Charter Parents Association (NYCPA) is a non-profit organization founded by parents. We are an independent organization advocating for parent and student rights in charter schools.

We would like to see the following charter laws amended:

Equal Per Pupil Funding, Facilities Funding, Charter Contracts and By-Laws, State Receivership, Independent Parent Association, Accountability and Transparency, Parent Voice, Parent Rights, Student Rights, Co-locations and Charter Cap.

2009 Annual Report of the Senate Education Committee

The 2009 Education Committee Report documents the activities of the Committee for the 2009 legislative session.  In order to create a cover for the report, Senator Oppenheimer sponsored an art contest for children in first through third grade, within her district.  One winner was chosen for the cover and five runners-up were chosen to be included within the report.  Senator Oppenheimer wishes to thank all of the children who entered the contest, as well as their art teachers.  Congratulations to Gustavo Morales, of the Trinity Elementary School in New Rochelle,

Joint Legislative Budget Hearing: Higher Education

 New York State Senate Finance Committee Chair Carl Kruger and Assembly Ways and Means Committee Chair Herman “Denny” Farrell, will commence the third joint budget hearing—focused on higher education—Wednesday, January 27th. Senator Toby Ann Stavisky (Chair, Senate Higher Education) and Assemblymember Deborah J. Glick (Chair, Assembly Higher Education) will also lead the hearing, at which the Governor’s proposed budget, including his proposed cut to the Tuition Assistance Program and necessary modifications will be discussed.
