Keynote Address at Greyston Workforce Development Graduation Ceremony

Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins delivered the keynote address at the Greyston Foundation’s Workforce Development Program (WD 2.0) Graduation ceremony, held in the Yonkers Public Library Riverfront Branch. Immediately preceding the ceremony, employers from throughout Westchester County met with graduates to assess employment possibilities.

NYS Senator Eric Adams, NYS Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries, and NYS Assemblyman Marcos Crespo Will Hold a Press Conference in Response to 'Panel of Experts' Vote to Deny Chancellor Waiver to Cathleen Black

 On Wednesday, November 24th, 2010 at 10:30AM, NYS Senator Eric Adams, NYS Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries, and NYS Assemblyman Marcos Crespo will call on State Education Commissioner David Steiner to adhere to the requirements of NYS law and to the recommendation of his own appointed panel of experts to deny Cathy Black a waiver for the post of NYC Public Schools Chancellor

NYS Senator Eric Adams states: “New York State law requires that school superintendents have a minimum of three years teaching experience and do graduate work in ‘school administration.’ The mayor’s nominee, Cathleen Black, satisfies neither prerequisite.

NYS Senator Eric Adams and NYS Assemblyman Marcos Crespo Will Introduce Legislation to Amend State Law Concerning Waivers for NYC Public School Chancellor

On Sunday, November 21, 2010, NYS Senator Eric Adams and NYS Assemblyman Marcos Crespo will amend State law to require concurrent resolution by the Senate and Assembly for any Commissioner’s waiver of requirements for persons who do not meet educational or professional prerequisites

 NYS Senator Eric Adams states: “My legislation (S8512) will amend the Education law to restrict the ability of the Commissioner of Education to issue a certificate for Superintendent or Chancellor to persons who do not meet educational or professional requirements for the position.

Serrano at Opening of Morris Heights Educational Complex

Senator Serrano joined Assemblymember Vanessa Gibson on Turesday, November 16th, in celebrating the opening of the Morris Heights Educational Complex, which includes P723X and P.S. 204X. The complex opened in September, and includes a full sized gym, auditorium and a state of the art library.

Chateaugay students commended for summer reading

    Senator Betty Little visited Chateaugay to commend a group of students who completed this year's summer reading challenge.  The kids were treated to a pizza party at Owl's Nest Pizza and More by teacher Mary Jones and Principal Loretta Fowler.  Senator Little presented certificates to each of the students.

Senator Robach Wraps up 2010 Dictionary Project

On Monday, September 27th, Senator Robach visited Northwood Elementary School in Hilton to wrap up the 2010 Dictionary Project. Over the past two weeks, Senator Robach has distributed dictionaries to third grade students in both Greece and Hilton as a part of a program sponsored by both the Greece Rotary and Hilton Rotary. Overall, third graders from 11 elementary schools received new dictionaries to use throughout the school year. Pictured with Senator Robach is third grader Lauren Morris.
