Hearing will focus on pilot program use of optical scan voting machines and proposals to end wasteful and expensive primary runoffs

WHEN: Thursday November 12th, 2009, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM WHERE: 250 Broadway, 19th Floor Senate Hearing Room, New York, New York 10007  Today, the Senate Elections Committee will hold a hearing intended to continue the Committee’s examination of the election process and ways to improve that process.  The hearing will seek comments on the administration of the 2009 elections and the pilot program for new voting systems, as well as proposals to reduce unnecessary expenses and election result delays by ending primary runoff elections and replacing them with instantaneous runoff voting.

State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D/WF – 35th District) announcedtoday that her legislation, Senate bill 2443-B, was unanimously approved bythe Senate during yesterday’s Special Senate Session.  The bill, requirespolling places to have on hand the information necessary to direct votersto their proper voting places.

(Albany, NY)- Wednesday, the Senate Elections Committee, Chaired by Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. (D-Howard Beach), held a public hearing in Albany to solicit public comment on proposed campaign finance reforms to reinvigorate participatory democracy. Along with last week’s hearing in Rochester this concludes the third set in a series of five hearings that will continue in September and November.
