Senator Maziarz Responds to Governor Cuomo's Energy Highway Blueprint Release

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo received the Energy Highway Task Force's Blueprint, a comprehensive plan that will add up to 3,200 megawatts of electric generation and transmission capacity and clean power generation at his Cabinet Meeting on Monday.   The Energy Highway initiative, introduced in the 2012 State of the State address, is part of the Governor's Power NY agenda, which was put in place to ensure that New York's energy grid is the most advanced in the nation and promotes increased business investment in the state.

New York State Senators Demand More Answers Regarding Proposed Champlain Hudson Power Express

STONY POINT, NY – Three New York State Senators today held a public hearing to gauge answers from a company, Transmission Developers, Inc., who is developing the Champlain Hudson Power Express – a project designed to deliver clean wind and hydro power to the New York metropolitan area.

At a press conference shortly before the scheduled public hearing that was held in the afternoon, the bi-partisan delegation spoke about what they hoped to learn from the 4-hour Q&A session, listening to both proponents of the plan and giving residents a chance to voice their concerns.

PowerUpWNY Announces Petition Drive to Support Dunkirk Repowering Project

Proposal would allow the coal-fueled plant to run on cleaner, more-efficient natural gas

OLEAN – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I- Olean), Chair of the PowerUpWNY Coalition, was joined by other members of the coalition in launching a petition drive today to gather support for NRG Energy, Inc.’s proposed Dunkirk Repowering Project. The group is seeking approval from the state to replace the existing coal-fueled power plant with a brand new, state-of-the-art natural gas power plant. If approved by the state, the new plant would produce cleaner energy, create up to 500 jobs and provide energy and resources to attract more businesses to the area.

Cutting Government Red Tape For New York Dairy Farmers

 

ALBANY, 08/15/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today joined Governor Cuomo in announcing immediate steps to cut government red tape to help New York dairy farmers capitalize on the growing Greek yogurt market.

“New York’s Greek yogurt makers are using millions of pounds of milk each day and it only makes sense that they use milk from New York dairy farms,” said Senator Seward.  “In order to facilitate this, we are cutting government red tape and partnering with our farmers so they can expand and meet growing demand for dairy products.”

Along with a growing number of elected officials, local leaders and community organizations, I have come to the conclusion that fracking is not safe and should be banned statewide.

The Queens Gazette wrote about the press conference held by Smart Power NY, a growing coalition that is focused on improving energy generation in the Queens community.

Smart Power NY, a coalition of business, labor and environmental groups along with local and state elected officials, announced that City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has joined the group, which is advocating for access to safe and reliable sources of power, a reduction in carbon emissions, job creation and policies that will help New Yorkers save on their power bills.
