Senator Adams' states:

" I am heartened that Governor Cuomo has signed bill S. 3111 into law, as it provides a measure of compassion and solace to parents who have been subjected to an unfathomable set of circumstances.  Over the past two and a half years I've met with parents that have suffered the cruel fate of having a stillborn child.  No matter when the event transpired, they carry the pain as if it were yesterday.

Queens, NY, September 19, 2011 -- I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with Feed the Children (Wednesday, September 14, in Forest Park) in order to address the growing issue of people living in poverty. At the event, families were given boxes of food, toiletries and Avon products, all totaling approximately $160.  The long and lingering effects of the recession have caused families to struggle to put food on the table; they don’t have the purchasing power to help the economy recover.

9/11 Remembrance Ceremonies Around Our Community

On Sunday, September 11th, Senator Robach had the privilege to attend a number of September 11th remembrance ceremonies around my district to mark the 10-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York City, at the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. These photos come from ceremonies at Lakeshore Community Church, Our Mother of Sorrows Church, and Greece Assembly of God. It was honor to be with so many members of our Fire Departments, Police Departments, First Responders, and Emergency Medical Technicians. All of the ceremonies were extremely moving and very well done. 10 years ago, terrorists tried to divide us, but they have only made us more unified than ever. They tried to confuse us, but now we see as clear as we ever had.

Bedbugs found in Astoria school

Queens Chronicle wrote about Senator Gianaris'  Bed Bug Notification Bill, passed last year, a measure to prevent incidents such as the one that occurred at P.S. 70.

Bedbugs have infested PS 70, an elementary school in Astoria, according to reports published last week, which said the school has the worst bedbug problem in the city.

The Department of Education discovered the infestation last December, including evidence the bugs were breeding, but never told anyone at the school about it.

For the first time, the DOE has admitted the problem came from within the school itself. In the past, the department has claimed bedbugs were brought into schools by students.

Residents and area politicians are incensed with the agency’s oversight.

Elected officials from Astoria were furious after the news broke that PS 70 on 42nd Street had the worst bedbug problems in the city and did not inform administrators or students.

“This type of negligence puts students and teachers at risk, and prevents families from taking necessary steps to protect their children,” state Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas (D-Astoria) said in a statement.

Bedbugs Ignored In Local School

Queens Gazette wrote about the bed bug infestation in P.S. 70.Children must be able to learn in an environment that is not hindered by bedbug infestations.

Parents and elected officials are furious at Astoria’s P.S. 70 for failing to notify them of a bedbug infestation that has been ignored since last winter.

An inspection was performed at the school in December, in which several bedbugs were found in one of the school’s closets with signs of breeding. No notification was given to the parents, students or teachers. Even Principal Donna Gellar was left in the dark; she was unaware an investigation took place to begin with.
