Senator David J. Valesky Unveils IDC Affordable NY Plan

SYRACUSE–State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida), joined by several local advocates, introduced the Independent Democratic Conference’s 2014 legislative agenda, titled “Affordable NY.” The agenda, composed of five core policy items, demonstrates the IDC’s commitment to working families during the 2014 legislative session.

Seward & Hannon Fight For Children With Special Needs

ALBANY, 12/09/13 – New York Senate Health Committee Chairman Kemp Hannon and Senate Insurance Committee Chairman James L. Seward today introduced legislation to preserve New York State’s Early Intervention Program and make certain that children with special needs receive the care they need. 

The legislation (S.6002) requires the state to make prompt payment to early intervention providers and ensures that retroactive payments will be made to providers who have been waiting for reimbursement since a new state system went into effect on April 1.

Protecting Children Must Remain Priority for All

In September, Western New York was once again rocked by the tragic loss of a young child. Five-year-old Eain Clayton Brooks suffered repeated, brutal beatings allegedly at the hands of his mother’s live-in boyfriend. Eain’s life was taken as a result of this senseless abuse.

As the father of three young children, I was deeply saddened by Eain’s death. Our entire community has mourned his loss, and I cannot imagine the immense pain that Eain’s family has endured. My thoughts and prayers remain with them.

Eain’s death is an intolerable and heartbreaking tragedy, and we must do all we can to prevent anything like this from ever happening again.

Senator Serrano Participates in the New York Botanical Gardens Annual Holiday Festivities

(Bronx, NY) - Senator Serrano joined members of the community at the New York Botanical Garden's Annual Holiday Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting celebrations. The festivities included the grand opening of the Holiday Train Show and the lighting ceremonies featuring song selections by the Westchester Chordsmen.
