NYS Conference of Black Senators offer their support and prayers to the families and friends affected by this terrible natural disaster in Haiti

Members of the NYS Conference of Black Senators sent messages of prayers and support today, to families and friends that have been affected by the tragic earthquake that took place south of Port-Au Prince, Haiti yesterday. “The Haitian community is a very vibrant and important part of our districts and we will do everything possible to aid them during this painful time”, Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson of the 36th District (Westchester and Bronx), Chairwoman of the NYS Conference of Black Senators (CBS).

Lakeshore Community Church Cuts Ribbon on LC2

On Sunday, January 10th, 2009, Senator Robach helped cut the ribbon on a $2.5 million addition at Lakeshore Community Church in Greece. The new 20,000-square foot community center includes a gymnasium and multipurpose room, a student room, an atrium, storage building, and kitchen. About $1.4 million was raised for the ...project by the congregation, with the rest of money coming from church reserves and financing through a bond company.

If It's Hurricane Season, It Must be December

For the Staten Island Hurricanes, playing in American Youth Football National Championship games — and winning them — is becoming a tradition.

This year, during the first week of December down in sunny Florida, was no different.

The Hurricanes Midget team, in their third year in a row in the National Championship, pulled out an exciting 32-24 overtime shootout victory over the Scottsdale Firebirds to win the title for the second time in three years.

Senator Alesi Protecting Child Safety

For several years now, Senator Alesi has sponsored numerous bills that tackle the issue of removing dangerous toxins from toys, novelty products, costume jewelry, candy, and drinking water.             Toxins such as chromated copper arsenate (CCA), lead, phthalates, and bisphenol-A (BPA) have been found in playgrounds and in many common products such as toys, pacifiers, and baby bottles.
