LaValle Bill to Help Commercial Fishermen Unanimously Passes Senate.

A  bill to help commercial fishermen by allowing them to aggregate their daily catch limits over a seven day period and conserve fuel, unanimously passed the Senate on Tuesday it was announced by New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle (R-C-I, Port Jefferson), the sponsor of the bill.

LaValle said his bill (S. 1456A) allows fishermen, for example, to catch three times the daily catch limit on Monday and two times the limit on Wednesday and then stay off the water until the following Monday when a consecutive period of seven days is complete. The bill also allows individuals with different fishing licenses to go out and catch each of their daily limits from the same boat (currently prohibited).

Carl Kruger’s “Polar Opposite,” Liz Krueger Takes On A New Role And New Challenges

By Jon Lentz - City Hall News

Advocates, good government groups and even Planned Parenthood are cheering Liz Krueger’s replacement of Carl Kruger as ranking member on the Finance Committee, despite a widely held belief that her impact on the budget will be slight at best.

“Senator Krueger has shown herself to be open to new ideas, innovation and reform,” said Susan Lerner, executive director of Common Cause New York. “I think that the Finance Committee is a place that could use more innovation and an open, creative attitude.”

Sean Barry of VOCAL-NY said that despite having similar names, Krueger is “the polar opposite” of Kruger.

Senator Montgomery Votes Down Senate Republican's Budget Resolution, Faults Proposal for Dismissing Juvenile Justice Reform

Dear Constituents and Juvenile Justice Advocates:

The Republican-controlled Senate and the Assembly have each submitted their budget bills, which accept and reject portions of the Governor’s recommended State spending plan for FY 2011-12.

2011 Senate Finance Committee Majority Revenue Forecast Report

In conjunction with IHS Global Insight, the Senate Finance Committee reviewed and analyzed the economic and revenue projections contained within the Executive Budget for SFY 2011-12. Based upon IHS Global Insight’s February economic forecast, the Senate Finance Committee projects $438 million in General Fund revenues (inclusive of miscellaneous receipts and transfers) above the Executive Budget forecast for SFY 2011-12. This amount is reduced by the estimate for the remainder of SFY 2010-11, which is $23 million less than the Executive estimate. Therefore, the two year General Fund receipts forecast is $415 million above the Executive forecast.
