Statement from Senator Serrano on Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation

(Albany, NY)- On Wednesday December 2, 2009, Senator José M. Serrano (D- Manhattan/Bronx) and his Senate colleagues worked with Governor David Patterson to approve a bipartisan Deficit Reduction Plan (DRP)  aiming to protect jobs, prevent tax hikes and save critical school funding. "Responsible cuts were necessary, but we were able to 'cut with care' by protecting funding for health care and education- without placing an additional burden on the taxpayer," said Serrano.

Westchester Hearing On Governor's Proposed Deficit Reduction Plan

Senator Valesky Calls for New Approach to State Budgeting, Citing SyraStat Success

SYRACUSE, N.Y.--State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) is calling for the adoption of performance budgeting for New York state that has worked in Syracuse as part of a long-term strategy to cut spending and improve efficiency in state government. Cut ACORN From The State Funding Tree

New York State is facing a multi-billion dollar deficit.  Families are making hard choices as they cut back during tough economic times.  Certainly the last thing we should be doing is funding questionable organizations.  That’s why I am joining the growing call to freeze all state funds slated to go to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), its sister organization, the New York Agency for Community Affairs (NYACA) and any other organizations that use state funds to contract with ACORN.
