“Yesterday’s vote to expel Senator Hiram Monserrate followed the recommendations of the Senate Select Committee, which investigated the facts and circumstances surrounding Senator Monserrate’s conduct.  The Select Committee determined that he engaged in domestic violence and failed to cooperate in any way with the work of the Select Committee. Over the last decade, the Senate passed over 100 pieces of legislation to provide law enforcement officials and members of the judiciary with severe penalties to deter acts of domestic violence and punish tho

Statement from Senator Valesky Regarding Governor's Ethics Bill Veto

I am deeply disappointed that the Governor chose to veto the ethics reform package. This legislation is a good first step in advancing substantial structural change in the way business is conducted in Albany, and will wipe out decades of ineffective ethics standards and enforcement. 

For the reform movement to move forward, we need steady progress, not line in the sand posturing.

The Senate will move to override this veto, and I implore my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to vote in favor of it, as they did with the original legislation.

Senate Passes Aubertine Legislation to Cut Costs for Municipalities and Help Reduce Property Taxes

This is the bi-weekly report on the New York State Senate’s web presence. This week the website received a total of 29469 visits. It had a bounce rate of 48%, higher than it’s long term average of 41%, and new visitors 70% of the time, higher than the long term average of 66%. The all time graph at the bottom of the first page shows that the website has returned to its pre-Marraige Equality performance.

The live webcasting has drawn over 500,000 views since it’s adoption and the archived footage has followed that growth very closely. The views of short clips on the NYSenate Youtube account continue to surpass total views on Livestream. NYSenateUncut videos remain about 19 times less watched than short clips on NYSenate.

The live webcasting has drawn over 80,000 views since its adoption and the archived footage has followed that growth fairly closely. However, the short clips on the NYSenate Youtube account are about 4 times more watched than the full videos of session and events posted on the nysenateuncut account.
