Risk Factors for Breast Cancer

A risk factor is anything that affects your chance of getting a disease. Having a risk factor, or even several, does not mean that you will get the disease. There are different kinds of risk factors. Some factors can be changed or modified- others cannot be changed, such as age and gender.

Assemblyman Karim Camara, Chair of the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus issues a statement after Governor Andrew Cuomo nominated Sheila Abdus-Salaam to the Court of Appeals:

Albany, NY – "We applaud Governor Cuomo for nominating Sheila Abdus-Salaam. It is fitting that she will be the first Black woman to serve. Justice Abdus-Salaam has already showed her commitment to defending our legal system throughout her decades of service. We congratulate her on her nomination and history making achievement. We believe Ms. Abdus-Salaam is highly qualified and deserves a swift confirmation."

While there are parts of the budget that are beneficial to the communities we represent, we are greatly disappointed that more was not done to address the needs of the most vulnerable New Yorkers. We were optimistic when many of our top priorities were mentioned as key priorities of the Governor in his State of the State. However, the actual results fell short.

We thank Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for their leadership during budget negotiations for advocating for the poor, low-income and middle class New Yorkers, but their efforts are only part of the process.

ALBANY - The New York State Senate has passed the State Budget on time for the third consecutive year, Senator Patrick M. Gallivan announced today. The spending plan adheres to a self-imposed two percent spending cap, contains significant tax relief for middle-class families and businesses, and also addresses some of the unique challenges facing Western New York.

Senator Mark Grisanti (R, I-60), a member of the New York State Multiple Sclerosis Legislative Alliance in the New York State Senate, and supporters are advocating for continuation of The New York State Multiple Sclerosis Registry during MS Awareness Week. "This is very personal to me, my brother Richard has MS and I know firsthand the struggles that MS patients go through. We must be able to detect the causes of MS at the earliest stage.
