Public Hearing: Public Hearing: Health Insurance and Autism Disorders

SUBJECT: The role of health insurance in the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this hearing is to (1) explore the health care needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorder and their families; (2) explore what health insurers, the federal government, state and local governments and educational institutions are doing to meet those needs; and (3) explore whether health insurers should be mandated to provide coverage for the screening, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder.

School’s open — and so are these clinics

Endangered health clinics in four public schools will be open when students return to class today, thanks to an emergency infusion of cash from the state government.

The four clinics located in elementary and middle schools in Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill and Park Slope are run by Long Island College Hospital, which said it had to close the centers because they lose $300,000 per year.

Deepdale Gardens Community Council Annual Blood Drive

Senator Padavan (Queens) honored the Deepdale Gardens Community Council, Inc. of Little Neck, during their annual blood drive held on August 9th at the Samuel Field Y. The Deepdale Gardens Community Council’s annual blood drive is the largest one-day drive in New York City. The drive attracts more than 200 donors and is done in partnership with the New York Hospital of Queens. Padavan presents the Deepdale Community Council members with a Senate Proclamation honor the Councils contributions to the community and commending them for their annual blood drive.

Senator Johnson's Sun Safety Program Ends with More Than 60,000 Sunscreen Samples Distributed

 

Senator Craig Johnson, (D-Nassau) announced the successful conclusion of Summer Sun Safety Program.

During the months of June, July and August, the Senator and members of his staff  visited beaches, parks and pools across the 7th Senate District to hand out free samples of sun block and other UV protection, as well as literature on the dangers of prolonged sun exposure, and detecting the early warning signs of skin cancer.  More than 60,000 free samples of sun block and sun-blocking cosmetics were handed out to residents during the program’s duration.
