Oppenheimer co-sponsored bill now awaits Governor’s approval

The New York State Legislature passed legislation protecting families and children affected by autism spectrum disorders from exorbitant healthcare costs.  Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck) was a key co-sponsor of the legislation (S7000B), which passed the Senate on June 9th, with unanimous, bipartisan support.  Earlier this week, the Assembly passed the bill, which will now be sent to the Governor for his approval.

ALBANY — A Westchester County assemblyman whose daughter is a two-time kidney transplant recipient wants to flip New York’s organ-donation system on its head by presuming people are donors unless they indicate otherwise.

“What we have in New York is a completely failed system,” said Assemblyman Richard Brodsky, D-Greenburgh.

Klein Bill Establishes Uniform Letter Grade System for Restaurant Inspections

 

State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced on Thursday that the Senate passed his legislation to establish a uniform, state-wide grading system for restaurants. Klein’s bill (S.8171) would require the NYS Commissioner of Health to establish a uniform letter grading system of “A,” “B,” and “C” to classify restaurant inspection results and mandate that restaurants prominently display their letter grade for patrons.
