October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month- Senator Oppenheimer is Living Proof that Early Detection is Key to Breast Cancer Survival

Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck) reminds New Yorkers that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and marks this occasion by urging all women to schedule their annual mammogram.

Medical professionals recommend that women receive a clinical breast exam beginning at age 20 and thereafter a minimum of once every three years until the age of 40. Women over 40 should undergo clinical breast exams every year.

CVPH receives $5.1 million in state grants

PLATTSBURGH — CVPH Medical Center has received two state grants totaling slightly more than $5.1 million for infrastructure for the Adirondack Region Medical Home Pilot and to advance ambulatory cardiac care.

The grants were part of a total of $436 million awarded under the Health Care Efficiency and Affordability Law of New York State to further improvements to the state's health-care system.

Prostate Cancer Screening Could Save Your Life

  Because prostate cancer kills so many of its victims, September has been designated Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.  It is a treatable and curable disease if caught early enough, yet every 17 minutes a husband, father, son brother, grandfather, uncle, or friend dies from this disease.  Most men are not aware that 33 percent more likely to get prostate cancer than women are to get breast cancer.  Of the almost 219,000 cases that are diagnosed this year more than 27,000 will die because they did not get an examination soon enough.

Public Hearing: Public Hearing: Health Insurance and Autism Disorders

SUBJECT: The role of health insurance in the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this hearing is to (1) explore the health care needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorder and their families; (2) explore what health insurers, the federal government, state and local governments and educational institutions are doing to meet those needs; and (3) explore whether health insurers should be mandated to provide coverage for the screening, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder.
