Senate Passes Legislation To Protect Newborns From Flu

Bill requires flu vaccine access in hospitals with neonatal intensive care units (Albany, NY)- Today, the New York State Senate passed legislation (S3911A) that would require any hospital with a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to offer flu vaccine to the parents and anticipated caregivers of newborns currently in the NICU.

May is Neurofibromatosis Awareness Month.

Senator Maziarz co-sponsored a resolution declaring the month of May 2009 as Neurofibromatosis Awareness Month in New York.

Neurofibromatosis is a genetic tumor disorder that causes tumors to form along the nerves anywhere in or on the body at any time. Symptoms may include brain tumors, blindness, deafness, seizures, disfigurement, learning disabilities, and cancer. To date there is no cure or effective treatment.

Taking big ‘STEPS’ to promote teen mental health

I want to thank the representatives of mental health agencies and non-profit organizations in Orange and Rockland for participating in a recent forum on the “STEPS” program (Screening, Treatment, and Education to Promote Strength), a first-of-its-kind virtual mental health initiative for teens and their parents. Funded through a $500,000 state grant I was able to secure, New York University’s Christopher P.

New Pfizer Inc. Program Gives Families Access to Free Medication

Helps to maintain prescription coverage despite loss of job

(Albany, NY)—Senator Martin Malavé Dilan (D-Brooklyn) is spreading the word of yet another prescription assistance program, this time by the graces of private industry.

Pfizer Inc., recently announced that it will help families who have lost health insurance maintain access to any Pfizer drugs prescribed to them at no cost. The new program, Medicines Assistance for Those who Are in Need (MAINTAIN), gives access to Pfizer medicines for free to eligible unemployed Americans and their families.
