ALTERNATIVES TO SUNY/CUNY BUDGET CUTS

Senator Owen H. Johnson is alarmed at Governor Paterson’s proposed mid-year $114 million cut to all SUNY and CUNY schools.  “These cuts are on top of a $146 million 2008-09 State Budget reduction and a shameless raid of $68 million in SUNY tuition revenues which were also raised,” said Senator Johnson.  “Considering the growing enrollment and economic benefits the SUNY and CUNY systems provide, they should not be subjected to the type of disproportionate budget cuts being proposed by Governor Paterson.”

Public Hearing: Public Hearing on Swine Flu Preparedness on College Campuses

In April 2009, the United States government declared a public health emergency following outbreaks of H1N1 Influenza A, also known as the “Swine Flu.” Since then, the 2009 H1N1 influenza has been escalated to Phase 6 worldwide pandemic alert level. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has indicated that many of the confirmed cases of the 2009 H1N1 Influenza have been in healthy young adults aged 19 to 24.
