Check To See If You Are Entitled To An Unpaid Life Insurance Policy

MORE THAN $665 MILLION IN UNCLAIMED LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS PAID TO DATE AS A RESULT OF STATE INVESTIGATIONAn investigation started by the Department of Financial Services in July 2011 has resulted in more than $665 million being paid to life insurance beneficiaries who were unaware that they were entitled to money from insurance companies. Before DFS put in place new regulations in 2012, insurance companies did not regularly seek out beneficiaries to pay death benefits, but instead waited for someone to make a claim. However, a significant number of people are not aware that they are named on a life insurance policy by a relative and so do not make a claim.

Governor Cuomo Outlines 2013-2014 Executive Budget to Maintain Fiscal Responsibility and Continue to Invest in Economic Growth

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo unveiled the proposed 2013-14Executive Budget and Management Plan that builds on two years of balanced, fiscally responsible budgeting and invests in economic development, education reform, rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy, provides support to local governments and school districts, and includes no new taxes or fees.

Highlights of the Executive Budget:

· Eliminates $1.3 billion budget gap with no new taxes or fees. The expected gap for 2013-14 was projected to be $17.4 billion prior to the last two responsible budgets.

· Holds spending increases below 2 percent for third consecutive year.

Over 15 mortgage lenders and 8 insurance companies will be coming to meet with their customers who have been impacted by Sandy this Saturday, December 15. This one-time event is an ideal opportunity for people who are dealing with  double-endorsed insurance payments; insurance payments going directly to the banks;  facing trouble making their mortgage payments because of loss or work and expenses -- some banks are able to lower or stop mortgage payments for up to a year! Disaster Hotline Established to Help New Yorkers with Insurance Issues from Hurricane Sandy; Operates 24/7

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the Department of Financial Services disaster hotline to help New Yorkers with insurance issues from Hurricane Sandy will now be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week starting today. The hotline, at 800-339-1759, can answer insurance related storm questions and help consumers file complaints. It has been open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends since immediately after Storm Sandy.

     The New York State Department of Financial Services’ insurance disaster assistance helpline is operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide help to those in need. Consumers can also file insurance-related complaints with the Department through the helpline.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES DEPARTMENT OF FINANCIAL SERVICES HELP CENTER OPEN IN MERRICK TO ASSIST RESIDENTS AFFECTED BY HURRICANE SANDY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Department of Financial Services has set up a Hurricane Sandy Response Center in Merrick to assist residents and business owners who were affected by the storm.

     Department of Financial Services representatives will be at the Merrick Jewish Centre, located at 225 Fox Boulevard in Merrick, between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm every day until further notice.

     Residents and business owners who need assistance with storm-related insurance issues will be able to speak individually with a Department of Financial Services representative. The program is open to everyone.
