Additional Counties To Receive Federal Disaster Aid

ONEONTA, 09/13/11 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that additional federal aid is now available for residents and business owners that suffered flood damage as a result of Tropical Storm Lee.

“FEMA assistance is already helping many who suffered damage after Tropical Storm Irene tore through our region, now those hit a week later by Tropical Storm Lee will also receive assistance in rebuilding,” said Senator Seward. “I joined Governor Cuomo on an aerial tour of much of the damaged region and together we witnessed the flood devastation. I appreciate the governor’s advocacy in securing additional federal aid for those in need.”

Insurance MCC Dispatched To Greene & Schoharie Counties

ONEONTA, 09/11/11 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced the New York State Insurance Department Mobile Command Center (MCC) will be in Greene County and Schoharie County to assist residents and business owners with questions they may have following recent storms and flooding.

“While touring storm damaged towns many of those who have lost everything expressed the need for some help in contacting their insurance companies,” said Senator Seward. “Financial Services Superintendent Benjamin Lawsky joined me in meeting with many storm victims and I want to thank him for his quick response to their needs by dispatching the mobile command center.”

Citizens throughout the state experienced extreme weather on Sunday, and many New Yorkers are still dealing with the aftermath of flooding, downed trees, power outages and other devastation. It is encouraged that those who felt the most destructive effects of Hurricane Irene to act quickly and take the appropriate steps to file insurance claims for damaged or lost property.

Here are some suggestions for filing an insurance claim for damaged or lost property:

• Contact your insurance provider and/or agent as soon as possible, as your policy might require that you make this notification within a certain time frame. Make sure you have your policy number and other relevant information ready for your company or agent.

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R, Merrick) and Assemblyman Joseph D. Morelle (D, Rochester) today announced an agreement between the Legislature and the Governor’s office in support of legislation to enable individuals with autism spectrum disorders to receive insurance coverage for screening, diagnosis and treatment. The bill (S.4005-A) would save tens of thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses spent by families caring for individuals with autism and address insurance companies’ refusal to cover costs for autism treatments and therapies.Autism Spectrum Disorders affect individuals of all ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic groups.

SENATE PASSES BILL TO FACILITATE EARLY DETECTION OF BREAST CANCER

    The New York State Senate today passed legislation to provide stronger preventative health care for women.  The bill (S.1883A), sponsored by Senator John Flanagan (R-C-I, East Northport), requires insurance companies to cover the cost of supplemental screening for women who have dense breast tissue or who are at greater risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer.
