Extending A Helping Hand

The New York State Senate is acutely aware of the hardships many New Yorkers face as a result of our nation's economic crisis. Unemployment insurance is one safety net that plays a vital role in helping individuals who have lost their jobs.

Today, the Senate's Finance Committee unanimously passed legislation that will extend unemployment benefits for an additional thirteen weeks. The funds--some $600 million--will come from the federal stimulus package, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
