LOHUD: STATE SEN. BALL COMES TO SOUTHEAST

State Sen. Greg Ball, R-Patterson, stopped by the Southeast Town Board meeting Thursday night to provide a legislative update from Albany.

“For the first time in a long time, Albany’s moving in the right direction,” he told the board and about 40 people in the audience.

He gave a quick rundown of issues from this year’s legislative session. Those included passing an on-time budget with a 2 percent spending cut and the property tax cap. In addition, he said he plans to continue trying to repeal the MTA payroll tax, reduce unfunded mandates and improve homeland security.

Senator Martins Salutes Henry Viscardi Cougars For Big Win at Basketball Tournament

Under sunny skies, the heat beat down on the basketball courts at the Dutch Broadway Elementary School in Elmont. The Henry Viscardi School Cougars waited patiently for their game to begin. The Cougars weren’t taken on any ordinary team; they would be taking on the Nassau County champion Elmont Memorial High School Spartans.

Senator Martins Joins Governor in Announcing Long Island Regional Economic Development Council

The Long Island Senate delegation joined Governor Andrew Cuomo on the campus of SUNY Old Westbury on Thursday, July 27 as the Governor launched the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council to act as the conduit between state government and the business community to spur economic development.

As part of an initiative to get make New York State more business-friendly, Governor Cuomo has created 10 regional economic development councils. Long Island is one of the regions. The Governor appointed Kevin Law, president of the Long Island Association, and Stuart Rabinowitz, president of Hofstra University, to co-chair the council.

Senator Ball’s Town Hall Tour Making Stop in Southeast Tonight!

Southeast, N.Y. – (07/28/11) – Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) is continuing his Town Hall Tour tonight with stop in Southeast, N.Y. The presentation is an opportunity for Senator Ball to provide the town with an update following this year’s legislative session. Elected leaders and residents are encouraged ask questions about issues facing New York or affecting their communities. LEWISBORO LEDGER: BALL TALKS TAXES, BENEFIT COSTS

High property taxes and pension costs were two main points of discussion at the Lewisboro Library on Monday night, when New York State Senator Greg Ball discussed his political goals and concerns with the Town Board.

Financial issues were among several topics talked about at the board’s meeting as part of Senator Ball’s “Town Hall Tour,” which began with Lewisboro and will include all 22 towns in his 40th District.

Senators Martins and Zeldin Appearing on Cablevision's Meet the Leaders

Long Island's two freshmen Senators - Senator Jack M. Martins and Senator Lee M. Zeldin - are currently appearing on the Cablevision show, Meet the Leaders. The theme of the show is a day in life of a Senator and includes footage of Senator Martins and Senator Zeldin going about their days in Albany. The two Senators then spoke about their first year in the Senate during an interview with the show's host, Patrick Halpin, at Cablevision's studios.

The show is airing until August 12 on Channel 118 on Cablevision on:

- Sundays at 7 p.m.

- Mondays at 11:30 a.m.

- Tuesdays at 7 p.m.

- Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m.

- Fridays at 11:30 a.m.

LEWISBORO: BALL SAYS ALBANY HAS MADE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS

LEWISBORO – State Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) kicked off his 22-stop Town Hall Tour at the Lewisboro Library Monday night telling the Town Board and audience members that this past year’s legislative session was highly productive.

“No one is a bigger critic of Albany than me,” said Ball, who represents the 40th Senate District, which includes both Lewisboro and Pound Ridge. “But think of what we accomplished this legislative session and with bi-partisan support. The progress we made in Albany this year was significant.”

Senator Martins Visits Kaos Farms in Old Westbury

On a hot and sunny summer afternoon, Senator Jack M. Martins visited Kaos Farms, located at 10 Old Westbury Road in Old Westbury, an authentic farm that harvests organic crops.

Senator Martins met with farmers Howard “Skip” Wade and Walter Hegarty as well as Lynette Frey and Mary Callan of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Senator Martins also met with Lisa Ott, president of the North Shore Land Alliance.

Kaos Farms grows all-natural crops of produce and vegetables in a spacious farm off Old Westbury Road. Kaos Farms is in its second year of operation and now offers a limited number of CSA shares to local community members.

Senator Martins' Food Drive to Begin August 1

Senator Jack M. Martins is partnering with Long Island Cares as well as local communities to collect food for those in need during a drive from August 1-21. There will be Long Island Cares drop boxes for food collection throughout the Seventh Senate District for those wishing to donate food.

Long Island Cares the Harry Chapin Food Bank was founded by the late singer-songwriter Harry Chapin. It is dedicated to providing food for those in need with the assistance of Long Island’s communities.

After visiting Long Island Cares, Senator Martins wanted to help the food bank. He reached out to all the villages in the Seventh Senate District to ask if they help host the food drive by placing a food collection box at their village hall.

Senator Jack M. Martins visited the children’s summer reading program at the Bryant Library in Roslyn. Senator Martins spent some time with the children, discussing the summer with them. The Senator then read a book with the children – “The 10 Things I Can Do To Help My World” by Melanie Walsh. The story was how even little things can make a big difference.

Senator Jack M. Martins Football Tournament Scores in Elmont

One of the great attractions at the 3on3 Basketball Tournament held on July 16th was the 1st annual "Senator Jack M. Martins 7on7 Football Tournament" for college and high school students. The chairperson for the tournament was Elmont resident Donald Pierre-Louis who worked overtime to make the tournament a huge success. Football stars from Elmont, Franklin Square, Floral Park, North Valley Stream and New Hyde Park participated in the games.

Senator Martins Supports Cancer Research Fundraiser in Elmont

Senator Jack M. Martins was back in Elmont to support a cancer research fundraising effort at Averill Park in the form of a Street Hockey Marathon! The 3rd annual hockey marathon is entitled "Playing for a Cure." Young people and adults throughout Elmont, Franklin Square, Floral Park and South Floral Park play hockey and raise money for cancer reasearch for charities like 1 in 9. Senator Martins was joined by 1 in 9 Director Gerri Barash and hundreds of local Elmont residents in the effort.

"This is a great cause and it's a lot of fun," said Senator Martins. "I'm very proud to have supported the effort and to cheer on our Elmont hockey players!"

Senator Martins Tours Great Neck Water Pollution Treatment Facility

Senator Jack M. Martins was in Great Neck to tour the Great Neck Water Pollution District. Senator Martins received an up-close look at the district’s new state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility. The facility is currently under construction as is undergoing an upgrade and expansion.

The upgrade and expansion of the District’s Wastewater Treatment Facility is expected to yield significant water quality and other environmental benefits to the waters and coastal areas of both Manhasset Bay and Long Island Sound.

The construction of the new facility, which started in 2010, will be fully completed December 14, 2013. The District’s facility will be meeting all required guidelines and regulations by the June 14, 2014 deadline.
