SENATOR MARTINS MEETS WITH KIDS STOCK THE HOUSE

Senator Jack M. Martins met recently with Kids Stock the House, an organization devoted to supporting the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. Kids Stock the House was founded by Donna Christina Oliverio, who enlisted the help of young people, getting students involved in helping others. Kids Stock the House, comprised on students who selflessly dedicated themselves to helping others, assists famlies in need by supporting the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, which provides comfort for those families who have a child undergoing medical treatment.

NEW LAWS TAKING EFFECT JANUARY 1, 2014

Business Tax Cuts, Family Tax Relief, Health Care Measures Among New Laws Taking Effect

Hundreds of thousands of small businesses and manufacturers in New York will see a reduction in their state taxes as a result of new tax cuts that take effect on January 1, 2014. In addition, tax relief for hardworking, middle class families, new health care protections, and the START-UP NY economic development program are among the new state laws that take effect on New Year’s Day.

SENATOR MARTINS HONORED BY COPAY

Senator Jack M. Martins recently attended the COPAY "Kids Helping Kids" holiday event, held at the Village of Great Neck Plaza. The Senator was honored and humbled to have received a Certificate of Appreciation from COPAY.

SENATOR MARTINS VISITS THE HENRY VISCARDI SCHOOL

Senator Jack M. Martins recently visited the Henry Viscardi School to wish the students and staff a happy holidays. The Henry Viscardi School is one of the jewels of education in the Seventh Senate District. Also vistiting the school was Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer of Yonkers.

Senator Martins and Assemblywoman Mayer were greated by President and CEO John Kemp and then were given a tour of the school.

Residents will have the ability to file complaints about utility companies online

When Superstorm Sandy hit the Long Island region in October 2012, many residents and businesses were without power for weeks, some for over a month. The lack of information provided by LIPA concerning when power would be restored frustrated an extremely difficult situation as many felt they had nowhere to turn.

Sen. Klein, Joined by Dozens of Victimized Bronx Homeowners, Announce Filing of Class Action Lawsuit Against Deceptive Contractors

BRONX, NY– Standing on the steps of the Bronx County Supreme Court, Senator Klein, joined by dozens of Bronx homeowners and Assemblyman Marcos Crespo (D-Bronx), announced that a lawsuit charging fraud, conspiracy, breach of contract and negligence had been filed against members of an elaborate scheme targeting first time, minority homeowners. Homeowners allege that the defendants, working in concert, (referenced to as the “Tota-Kash Group” in the complaint), bilked them for millions of dollars by inducing them to purchase homes in the Bronx without valid certificates of occupancy and with shoddy workmanship.

New York State Senator Jack M. Martins once again held an annual toy drive and the communities in the Seventh Senate District answered with their customary generosity. The willingness to help others captured the spirit of the holidays as hundreds of toys from Senator Martins’ office made their way to Cohen Children’s Hospital Medical to benefit its Creative Arts Therapy Department.

The team celebrated their wins and the Rutgers Cup at a special Championship breakfast sponsored the Carey Dads Club! "What a team and what a great school! I'm so proud of these young men, the cheerleaders and the entire coaching staff. They've made Franklin Square, Garden City South and West Hempstead proud," said Senator Jack Martins.

Above All, We Celebrate Hope

It may not be one of the more noble holiday traditions but I guiltily admit that one of my favorite things to do at this time of year is to settle down on the couch next to the fireplace with a bag of cookies and my dog to watch the endless stream of Christmas movies on TV. My wife and kids usually shun the endeavor and remind me that we’ve watched them, literally, dozens of times before. Yet this annual ritual gives me comfort, so I continue.

CENTER STREET SCHOOL STUDENT SERVICE CLUB MAKES GENEROUS DONATION TO SENATOR MARTINS' HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE

Senator Jack M. Martins was overwhelmed by the generosity of the student-members of the Student Service Club at the Center Street School, one of the schools in the Herricks School. Under the leadership of faculty advisor Janine Gentile, the students collected 250 toys to donate to Senator Martins' annual toy drive. This year, the toys were donated to Cohen Children's Medical Center. 

Senator Martins visited with the Student Service Club to thank them for all of their hard work in collecting toys for children who are undergoing medical treatment. The students were very glad to be able to help others. As one student said, "When I help someone else, it makes me feel good."

Senator Jack M. Martins recently attended the Mineola Golden Age Club Christmas Luncheon at the Chateau Briand, where he greeted many dear friends, wishing them a very merry Christmas. The Mineola Golden Age Club is one of the jewels of the Mineola community. This year, it celebrated its 45th anniversary. Senator Martins is an honorary member.
