JOB MASHARIKI Named to the NYS Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame

Job Mashariki, former President/CEO and Founder of Black Veterans for Social Justice was named today to the NYS Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame. State Senator Velmanette Montgomery nominated Mr. Mashariki for this special designation. He served his country honorably as a Specialist Four in the United States Army.

Senate Passes Legislation to Help Disabled Veterans

The New York State Senate today passed legislation (S.2423), sponsored by Senator Gregory R. Ball (R-C, Pawling), that would give greater access to state contracts to veterans who were disabled during their service.   This bill would codify for New York an identical and highly successful program adopted for federal contracting.  Given the increase in the number of veterans and disabled veterans due to recent overseas conflicts, this bill would provide a small measure of recognition that this group of selfless men and women deserve.

LaValle Names Two to NY State Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame, Shelter Island 1st Lieutenant Joseph James Theinert and Marine Lance Corporal Jordan C. Haerter of Sag Harbor to Receive Award Posthumously May 22.

Two East End war veterans will be posthumously inducted into the New York State Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame on May 22 in an Albany ceremony it was announced today by New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle who nominated the pair -- US Army  1st Lieutenant Joseph J. Theinert  from Shelter Island and Marine Lance Corporal Jordan C. Haerter of Sag Harbor --  for the state honor.

“Joe Theinert and Jordan Haerter are true heroes who gave their lives to protecting the freedoms we treasure. They should be recognized and commended by our State and community,” said Senator LaValle.  “The New York State Veterans’ Hall of Fame is a tribute to these two fine young men that demonstrates our respect and gratitude for their patriotism and sacrifice.”

This annual celebration is held to honor all of those brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve our Country, both at home, and overseas. Thank you to all of our servicemen and women for their dedication and courage. The New York State Legislature Honors West Point

 Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson), a retired Lieutenant Colonel who served 23 years on active duty in the United States Army, today hosted the sixtieth annual "West Point Day" at the New York State Capitol in Albany. 

 “I am deeply honored to represent the United States Military Academy at West Point in the New York State Senate,” said Senator Bill Larkin.  “The Academy has a long history of bringing out the best in individuals and the cadets visiting us today are shining examples of this successful tradition.  I applaud them for their dedication and commitment to our country and I thank them for their sacrifices,” said Larkin.
