Yesterday, I had the privilege to speak at a press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony where Delta Airlines announced its new service from Rochester to New York City's LaGuardia Airport. The first flight took off at 2:03 p.m. yesterday, immediately following the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Senate Passes Bill to Increase Public Disclosure About the Safety of Rides and Amusements

The New York State Senate today passed a measure that will help provide the public with more information about amusement parks, carnivals or county fairs so that they can make informed safety decisions. The bill (S.5868A), sponsored by Senator Pat Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) requires the state and amusement operators to post valuable safety information online and at a ride’s location.

Squadron, Colleagues Urge City to Honor Commitment, Fully Fund North Brooklyn Park

NEW YORK -- Today, State Senator Daniel Squadron urged the City to honor its pledge to North Brooklyn and use the budget process to fully fund Bushwick Inlet Park, in testimony at the City Council Parks and Recreation Committee's preliminary budget hearing.

North Brooklyn has long been starved for open, green space. As part of the 2005 rezoning of the Williamsburg and Greenpoint waterfront, the City committed $309 million to develop 28 acres of parkland along the East River.

Wearin’ O’ The Green

The Queens Gazette posted an article about the 13th St. Pat's For All Parade in Sunnyside and Woodside, which several elected officials attented, including Senator Gianaris.

The 13th St. Pat’s For All Parade in Sunnyside and Woodside, shortened by seven to eight blocks for the second consecutive year, was held on Sunday, March 4, a day of cool temperatures and overcast skies. Skillman Avenue between 47th and 56th Streets had to be cleared of parked vehicles well before the parade was scheduled to begin. Many car owners appeared to be unaware that the parade was being held and a number of vehicles were towed to the police pound in College Point between 9 a.m. and noon.

SENATE PASSES 2012-13 BUDGET RESOLUTION

Gallivan: “Senate Plan Cuts Taxes, Reforms Medicaid, Protects Seniors and Schools.”

The New York State Senate voted to approve its 2012-13 Senate Budget resolution, continuing its focus on state spending, job creation, and structural reform to government.

The Senate budget, at just under $132.5 billion, keeps the total state spending increase below two percent, and spends less than the Executive Budget. The budget closes a $2 billion budget deficit and builds on last year’s successes in putting the state’s fiscal house in order.
