Senate passes $3.3 billion tax cut and job creation plan

The New York State Senate has passed the Middle Class Tax Cut and Job Creation Plan that will reduce taxes for millions of hardworking, middle-class taxpayers to their lowest levels in more than half a century. In addition, the comprehensive plan will help strengthen our economy and create new jobs by eliminating the job-killing MTA payroll tax for more than 78 percent of the small employers that pay the tax. The plan will provide a total of more than $3.3 billion in tax relief to individuals and businesses.

SENATOR YOUNG VOTES TO CUT TAXES ACROSS THE BOARD

ALBANY – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I – Olean) today voted for a $3.3 billion tax cut that will help grow jobs.

“Everyone who pays state personal income taxes gets a break no matter which tax bracket. People will keep more of their hard earned money in their paychecks,” said Senator Young.

“Small businesses and upstate manufacturers will gain much-needed tax relief so they can grow private sector jobs,” she added.

“It will help family budgets while giving a real boost to the economy,” Senator Young said.

“In fact, after these tax cuts, middle income earners will see the lowest state personal income tax in 50 years. They will have more money to spend, save or invest,” she said.

BREWSTER — 12/7/2011– After years of leading the charge to repeal the MTA payroll tax, I am thrilled with the governor’s plan. With that being said, I will continue with my demands for forensic accounting to protect blue collar families like mine who are struggling. This tax cut for the middle class is exactly the shot in the arm working families need and is a great jobs focused package that begins to adjust our unfair tax code, while eliminating the job killing MTA payroll tax for the vast majority of payers. Now more than ever we must remain focused on job creation and push even harder moving into 2012 to alleviate the tax burden for working families, seniors and small business owners. This is a great first step towards that goal!

The agreement includes support for a comprehensive New York Works Agenda that will create thousands of jobs with new investments in New York's infrastructure, passing a fair tax reform plan that achieves the first major restructuring of the tax code in decades resulting in a tax cut for 4.4 million middle class New Yorkers taxpayers, approving $50 million in additional relief for areas devastated by recent floods, and reducing the MTA payroll tax to provide relief for small businesses.
