BILL NUMBER: S1928 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the education law, in relation to certain licensed dentists PURPOSE : To allow dentists licensed in another state to participate in continuing education opportunities by accredited New York medical centers. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1 amends subdivision 3 & 7 of section 6610 of the Education Law in relation to locations which dentists licensed in other states may receive dental training to include any program that has been accredited by a national accrediting body approved by the department of health. ESPADA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to certain licensed dentists THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivisions 3 and 7 of section 6610 of the education law, subdivision 3 as added by chapter 987 of the laws of 1971 and subdivi- sion 7 as added by chapter 470 of the laws of 1991, are amended to read as follows: 3. A student from [engagng] ENGAGING in any procedure authorized under section sixty-six hundred six of this article in clinical practice as part of a registered program in dental hygiene under supervision of a dentist holding a license or a limited permit for instructing in dentis- try in a school of dental hygiene; 7. A dentist licensed in another state or country who is visiting an approved dental school OR ANY OTHER ENTITY OPERATING A RESIDENCY PROGRAM THAT HAS BEEN ACCREDITED BY A NATIONAL ACCREDITING BODY APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT to receive dental instruction for a period not to exceed ninety days from engaging in clinical practice, provided such practice is limited to such instruction and is under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist.
