BILL NUMBER:A7828 REVISED 5/4/10 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the penal law, in relation to requiring each county to establish a retired police officer firearms qualification course that meets state standards for training and qualifications PURPOSE: This bill requires each county to establish a retired police officer firearms qualification course that meets state standards for training and qualifications. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1-The penal law is amended by adding a new section 400.02. Section 2- Contains Effective Date. JUSTIFICATION: This bill would allow retired police officers to take the police officer firearms qualification course, required by state standards, in a more convenient location than where it is currently held in Rockland County, which is still an inconvenience for the majority of police officers, retired or not. It would allow more retired police officers the opportunity to take the course locally and avoid the incon- venience of such a lengthy trip. PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New legislation. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None.
