BILL NUMBER: S2622 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to the placement of additional information on traps PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : To provide the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation with the needed flexibility to allow for the placement of other information on set traps. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Amends section 11-1105 of the environmental conservation law to allow for the placement of duly assigned identification numbers on traps provided that state, county and municipal law enforcement agencies have access to the name, address and phone number of the trap operators who have been assigned the identification numbers. JUSTIFICATION : More and more, especially as time and technology progresses, we must ensure that the Department of Environmental Conservation has the needed and necessary ability and flexibility to work with the hunting community and the general public. Certainly, in recognition of this, the Department's implementation of the DECALS licensing system is an outstanding example of their capabilities in improving technology and

VALESKY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Environmental Conservation AN ACT to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to the placement of additional information on traps THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 11-1105 of the environmental conservation law, as amended by chapter 911 of the laws of 1990, is amended to read as follows: 1. Traps set for taking wildlife shall bear the name and residence address OR THE ASSIGNED IDENTIFICATION NUMBER of the operator legibly at all times, PROVIDED, THAT STATE, COUNTY AND MUNICIPAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES SHALL HAVE ACCESS TO THE NAME, ADDRESS AND TELEPHONE NUMBER OF SUCH OPERATOR WHO WAS ASSIGNED SUCH IDENTIFICATION NUMBER. They shall be visited once in each twenty-four hours, except in the Northern Zone where they shall be visited once in each forty-eight hours or a shorter interval of no less than twenty-four hours as the department may, by regulation, require, and all wildlife held captive shall immediately be removed from the traps.
