BILL NUMBER:S6768 TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to authorizing the commissioner of environmental conservation to undertake projects to protect the Montauk Lighthouse from shore erosion PURPOSE: This legislation would allow the Department of Environmental Conservation to undertake any project to protect the Montauk Lighthouse from shore erosion. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: This is a special act authorizing the Department of Environmental Conservation to undertake any project to protect the Montauk Lighthouse from shore erosion, notwithstanding any other laws to the contrary. JUSTIFICATION: The Montauk Lighthouse, owned by the Montauk Historical Society, is a historically significant site on the east end of Long Island. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: This is a special act to authorize the Commissioner of Environmental Conservation to undertake projects to protect national historic landmarks from shore erosion, notwithstanding any other laws to the contrary. JUSTIFICATION: The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is a partner with other levels of government to protect national historic landmarks from shore erosion.
