TITLE OF BILL:
An act
to amend the highway law, in relation to designating the Scajaquada
pedestrian bridge as the "Scajaquada
9/11 Memorial Bridge"

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill would designate the Scajaquada pedestrian bridge as the
"Scajaquada 9/11 Memorial Bridge."

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:

Section 1 designates the Scajaquada pedestrian bridge as the
"Scajaquada 9/11 Memorial Bridge" spanning New York State Route 198,
from Nottingham Terrace to Hoyt Lake in Delaware Park in the city of
Buffalo.

JUSTIFICATION:
Since 2003, an annual remembrance takes place atop the bridge on the
anniversary of September 11, 2001. Buffalo Police and Fire First
Responders, as well as EMS personnel and soldiers have faithfully
attended every year. The purpose for this legislation is to honor the
victims of 9/11 by renaming the bridge the "Scajaquada 9/11 Memorial
Bridge."

PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
S. 6323 of 2012; referred to transportation.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: Unknown at this time.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately.

AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating  the  Scaja-
  quada pedestrian bridge as the "Scajaquada 9/11 Memorial Bridge"

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section  256  to
read as follows:
  S 256. SCAJAQUADA PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "SCAJAQUA-
DA  9/11  MEMORIAL  BRIDGE".  THE  PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE THAT SPANS NEW YORK
STATE ROUTE 198, KNOWN AS THE  SCAJAQUADA  EXPRESSWAY,  FROM  NOTTINGHAM
TERRACE  TO HOYT LAKE IN DELAWARE PARK IN THE CITY OF BUFFALO, COUNTY OF
ERIE, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS  THE  "SCAJAQUADA  9/11  MEMORIAL
BRIDGE".
  S  2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
lation and maintenance of adequate signing  as  designated  pursuant  to
section one of this act.
  S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
